Arizona Online has expanded its cannabis certificate offerings to provide more pathways for learners seeking careers in one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States. With six online certificate options, the program allows learners to build foundational knowledge or specialize in a specific sector of the cannabis industry through flexible, career-focused training.

The cannabis certificate programs are designed for working professionals, career changers, entrepreneurs and those already employed in the industry who want to gain formal training and strengthen their credentials. Courses are offered fully online and asynchronously, allowing learners to complete weekly assignments on their own schedule while balancing work and personal commitments. Most students spend about 6–10 hours per week on coursework.

Associate certificate vs. specialist certificates

The Cannabis Associate Certificate is the entry point for learners who want a broad overview of the cannabis field. This eight-week program introduces the structure of the industry, cannabis policy, plant science and the major sectors of the supply chain, making it a strong starting point for those new to cannabis careers.

After completing the associate-level training, learners can continue into specialist certificates, which provide deeper knowledge in a focused area of the industry. These advanced certificates typically run longer and are designed to help learners develop job-ready skills aligned with specific roles.

Certificate options

Each certificate focuses on a different career pathway within the cannabis industry.

  • Cannabis Retail & Sales Specialist Certificate: Prepares students for careers in the cannabis retail industry, covering product knowledge, customer service, compliance requirements, and effective sales strategies. Ideal for aspiring retail associates and store managers.
  • Cannabis Cultivation Specialist Certificate: Focuses on the science and practice of growing cannabis, including cultivation techniques, plant health management and grow facility operations.
  • Cannabis Compliance Specialist Certificate: Covers state and federal regulations, compliance strategies and best practices for maintaining operational integrity.
  • Cannabis Product Development Specialist Certificate: Explores how cannabis product types are made, quality assurance, and market trends.
  • Medical Cannabis Specialist Certificate: Provides knowledge about the medicinal applications of cannabis, including therapeutic use, patient care, legal considerations and current research.
  • Cannabis Associate Certificate: Provides a broad introduction to the cannabis industry and prepares learners for entry-level roles or further specialization.
