The University of Arizona Cybersecurity Certificate Program
This program is intended for technical professionals who want to become experts in cybersecurity, and it includes three 16-week fully online courses:
- Network Security
- Computer Security
- Cybersecurity Expert
The online Cybersecurity Certificate Program will not only teach the fundamentals of cybersecurity, but it will also provide hands-on experience in using network and computer monitoring tools, intrusion detection and prevention tools, and other cybersecurity tools. The hands-on experience and cybersecurity labs will prepare you to apply and use what you learn immediately in your cybersecurity career.
Because this training contains online labs, participation in the program requires high-speed and reliable Internet access and a computer (minimum Windows 7 or MacOS X or Ubuntu 12.04 or a tablet with similar capabilities).
Each course was developed in accordance with the National Initiative on Cybersecurity for Education (NICE) / National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, which outlines specific knowledge, skills and abilities for cybersecurity workers.
The program is designed by Dr. Salim Hariri, a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Arizona. He the co-director of the NSF Center for Cloud and Autonomic Computing and he is the Editor-In-Chief for the CLUSTER COMPUTING JOURNAL (Springer, http://clus.edmgr.com). Dr. Hariri is a world renowned researcher in the area of cybersecurity, distributed computing, and autonomic computing. Dr. Hariri is the founder of AVIRTEK, a startup cybersecurity company, and he has led the development of several innovative autonomic cybersecurity products and services to provide self-protection capabilities with little involvement of users or administrators.
Network Security - Spring 2020
The Network Security course focuses on network operations and security. Upon successfully completing the course, you will be able to use the data collected from a variety of cyberdefense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze network events for the purpose of detecting and mitigating attacks against the network.
Computer Security - Spring 2020
The Computer Security course focuses on securing computing systems and web applications. Upon successfully completing the course, you will be able to use the data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze computing systems and applications events for the purpose of detecting and mitigating attacks against their operations. Prerequisites: successful completion of Network Security course. Computer Security will be offered in Spring 2020.
Cybersecurity Expert - Fall 2020
The Cybersecurity Expert course covers cyber systems, networks, applications, mobile devices and web applications. Upon successfully completing the course, you will be able to set up security policies, perform penetration tests to evaluate the robustness of current security techniques, and perform forensic analysis. Prerequisites: successful completion of Network Security and Computer Security courses. Cybersecurity Expert will be offered in Fall 2020.
