Who Should Take This Course?

SHRM certification is designed for experienced HR professionals:

• SHRM-CP is recommended for those in operational HR roles: according to SHRM, this includes duties such as "implementing HR policies, supporting day-to-day HR functions, or serving as an HR point of contact for staff and stakeholders."
• SHRM-SCP is recommended for more experienced HR professionals with at least 3 years of work history in a strategic HR role. This includes duties such as "developing HR policies and/or procedures, overseeing the execution of integrated HR operations, directing an entire HR enterprise, or leading the alignment of HR strategies to organizational goals."

​The course is completely online, so you can prepare for your HR exam wherever you are located.

This course combines the convenience of self-paced study with the structure and support of an instructor-led class. You will complete weekly assignments such as reading, discussion questions and quizzes on your own schedule.

You will have access to a SHRM-SCP instructor, who can answer questions and help you through the material. The instructor will also host weekly optional live Zoom sessions to help you deepen your HR knowledge.

What Is Included

• Comprehensive SHRM exam preparation: SHRM credentials are based on the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge™ (SHRM BASK™), which describes the behavioral competencies and HR knowledge that HR professionals need for effective job performance. The course provides participants with a comprehensive review of the SHRM BASK™ in preparation for taking the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP exam. Download full syllabus (PDF).
• Structured learning: participants will complete weekly assignments (amount per week varies), such as discussion questions, quizzes, and an assessment to keep on track to prepare for their certification exam.
• Weekly live Zoom sessions: participants can attend optional weekly Zoom sessions led by the instructor and other HR experts. These sessions provide the opportunity to ask questions, get feedback, and to interact with the instructor and each other.
• SHRM Learning System: course registration includes 18 months of access to the proven SHRM Learning System (a $995 retail value).
• Certificate: upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from University of Arizona Continuing & Professional Education.

Participants who successfully complete the course may also receive 10 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are available for an additional fee.

Denise Godoy is a Human Resources Manager at the University of Arizona. Denise oversees the day-to-day operations for her unit including recruitments, hiring, payroll, compensation, and leave management. She provides advice and guidance on employee relations issues and performance management.

Denise has over 10 years of experience in the HR field. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Management and Policy and a Master of Legal Studies degree with a concentration in Compliance and Legal Risk Management. Denise also holds the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation.

Training Schedule and Format

This non-credit training and certification exam prep program is fully online and self-paced.

It is an open enrollment program, so you can register and start learning at any time. Once you register, you will have 12 months to complete the training program.

NOTE: because this is a self-paced program, there is not an instructor available to answer questions or help you understand the material.

CompTIA Training Options

For those with some IT work experience: CompTIA A+ Training and Exam Bundle

CompTIA A+ certification validates that you have the core tech skills for IT support roles, and it is a requirement for many entry-level IT help desk jobs.

In addition to equipping participants with core tech skills, this self-paced online training prepares participants to take the CompTIA A+ Core 1 and Core 2 certification exams.

Although not required, CompTIA suggests that A+ candidates have 9 to 12 months hands-on professional IT experience in the lab or field. If you do not have any prior technical experience, you may wish to start with CompTIA's Tech+ training (see below).

CompTIA Network+ Training and Exam Bundle

CompTIA Network+ certification validates that you have core technology skills in networking concepts, infrastructure, network operations, security and troubleshooting.

Network+ certification is often required for network support, engineering, and administration roles.

This course helps participants acquire those core skills and prepare to take the CompTIA Network+ certification exam.

Although not required, it is recommended that participants have A+ certification and at least 9-12 months of networking experience prior to taking the Network+ exam.

CompTIA Security+ Training and Exam Bundle

CompTIA Security+ certification validates baseline security skills. It is an excellent starting point for those with some IT experience who want to move into IT security roles.

This self-paced online training helps participants acquire core IT security skills, as well as preparing to take the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. 

Although not required, it is recommended that participants have Network+ certification and two years of IT administration experience with a security focus prior to taking the Security+ exam.

Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is the first step towards becoming a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). 

About the FE Exam Prep Class

The FE Exam Prep class is designed to maximize your chance at passing the FE exam the first time.

It includes coverage of every topic on the FE Civil Engineering and Other Disciplines exams: math, probability and statistics, chemistry, ethics and safety, engineering economics, instrumentation, statics, dynamics, material science, fluid mechanics, electrical power and more.

You will also learn practical problem-solving and test-taking strategies to help you get ready for the type of questions you will see on the FE exam.

In addition to learning online, you can get personalized help from the instructor to set you up for FE exam success:

• Ask questions and get help online via discussion boards and email.
• Attend optional weekly live instructor-led study sessions on Wednesdays, 5:30-7:00 p.m. You can attend these sessions in-person in Tucson, or remotely (via Zoom) from any location.

Who Should Take FE Exam Prep?

Everyone is welcome. Those who have a 4-year engineering degree (or will graduate soon), as well as those with documented work experience in the engineering field are encouraged to participate.

Refugees, immigrants and others with international engineering experience are also welcome. 

You can take the FE exam if you have:

• An engineering degree or training from outside the U.S. OR
• 4 years of documented work experience in engineering or a related field OR
• A 4-year engineering degree

Class Schedule and Format

FE Exam Prep is offered twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.

• Fall class dates: August 20-December 10, 2025 - register for this class

Format: The convenient online format allows you to prepare for the FE exam from any location.

The class includes weekly video lectures, homework activities, and quizzes/exams to reinforce your learning and help you gauge your progress on each topic. All activities can be completed online, on your own schedule, each week.

Live instructor-led study sessions will be offered every Wednesday 5:30-7 p.m., excluding holidays. You can attend study sessions in person (in Tucson) or remotely (via Zoom).
